Why heading structure matters

Headings are the table of contents of your page. Search engines and AI assistants use them to understand which passage answers which question, and screen-reader users navigate by them.

One H1 per page

Use a single H1 that states the topic. In most CMSs the post title is already the H1, so article bodies should start at H2.

Don't skip levels

Go from H2 to H3, not from H2 straight to H4. Skipped levels break the outline and suggest missing sections.

FAQ

Heading Structure Checker FAQ

Does it fetch my URL?+

No. It only analyzes the HTML you paste, entirely in your browser, so it works for drafts and private pages too.

Should I phrase headings as questions?+

For informational content, yes for several of them. Question headings match how people search and how assistants pick answers.
